Hynes, CEO of Evara, at The Irons in The Crossings in Adamstown

Housing Minister James Browne TD joined Evara today as Ireland’s largest private homebuilder and celebrated reaching a construction milestone on a new apartment development in Adamstown in Dublin, which is being delivered for the Land Development Agency (LDA).

The Irons apartment complex at The Crossings in Adamstown involves 436 units across three blocks ranging in height from 5 to 9 storeys. A total of 392 of the apartments are being developed for the LDA and will be made available as cost rental. The remaining 44 will be made available for social housing.

The Minister and representatives of the LDA joined with Evara to attend a ‘topping out’ ceremony to celebrate the completion of the roof stage of the apartment blocks.

Minister Browne was joined by Michael Hynes, Chief Executive Officer of Evara and Barry O’Brien, Head of Investment, at the LDA.

Construction started on the apartments in May 2024 and they are hopeful to be fully completed by the end of this year. The development is one of the largest deals being completed for the LDA in 2025.

The ceremony comes weeks after Evara was revealed as the new name of Quintain Ireland. The rebranding follows TPG Real Estate’s strategic partnership with Quintain Ireland’s management to acquire the homebuilder in August of 2024 and reflects a new impetus on Evara’s mission to deliver high-quality homes in sustainable and vibrant communities.

It will also support the next stage of the homebuilder’s growth and evolution as it seeks to accelerate its housing delivery to reach an output target of 1,500 homes a year.

Minister for Housing James Browne TD, said:

“I am pleased to attend the topping out ceremony of this new apartment development in The Crossings and to see the excellent progress made to date. The development is being completed in partnership with the LDA and the majority of the homes involved will be made available as cost rental with a number also being used for social housing. Cost rental is an important new tenure, offering eligible renters the opportunity to live in secure accommodation at rents they can afford. It is fantastic to see the delivery of cost rental homes, especially when they are being built to such as high-quality in such well-served and vibrant areas as The Crossings. As Housing Minister, I am seeking an increase in the number of cost rental homes and the Government is making more funding available to ensure we achieve this. I would like to thank Evara and the LDA for partnering on this development and I look forward to its completion later this year.”

Michael Hynes, Evara’s Chief Executive Officer, said:

We are delighted to welcome Minister James Browne to The Crossings and to be partnering with the LDA on this new and exciting development. The Crossings is a superb place to live with excellent public transport links and all the services and amenities households need and expect when they rent or buy a new home. Evara has already developed The Crossings retail centre and a new urban village centre. We have also completed over 460 apartments at The Crossings, and we are now well on the way to completing another 430 at a time when new housing developments are much needed. I would like to thank Minister Browne for attending our topping our ceremony and for his kind words. I would also like to thank the LDA for partnering with us on this development and I look forward to handing over the keys in the near future.”

Barry O’Brien, Director of Investment at the LDA, said:

“I would like to thank Minister Browne for attending the topping out of what will be a significant new addition to the LDA’s growing stock of cost rental homes. These new apartments are being delivered by us in a great location and I am delighted to see the progress made to date and the quality of the construction. We look forward to their completion and to welcoming new cost rental tenants to Adamstown. I would like to thank Evara for partnering with the LDA and for all their work so far.”

The apartments currently under construction form part of the third phase of The Crossings at Adamstown. Evara officially launched The Crossings, an urban village and retail centre in September 2023 and the new development serves as the central core of the Adamstown Strategic Development Zone.

A total of 463 apartments have already been completed at The Crossings, which will ultimately be home to 1,000 apartments and a wide range of shops and services. A social, community and retail hub, the area already includes retailers and service providers such as Tesco, Aldi, The Grafton Barber, ABC Gym, Belfry Café, McCabes Pharmacy and Dublin Bay Vets.

The Crossings also features an urban park spread out over 2-acres with amenities including a 14-metre play train, soft play trails, biodiversity corridors, a large plaza space and outdoor seating. As one of Ireland’s newest suburbs, Adamstown already has a number of new schools and community amenities including parks and playing pitches.

The new apartments at The Irons, all of which will be A-rated and constructed to high standards, have been secured under the LDA’s Project Tosaigh initiative, whereby the agency partners with developers, providing the financial impetus needed to get developments started and completed. The new development involves 9 studio apartments, 189 one-bed apartments, 185 two-beds and 9 three-beds.

This is the first time that Evara and the LDA have partnered together as part of Project Tosaigh. The development is being financed by AIB and Elliott Group are contractors.
